The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Verplanck Flotilla is offering a oating safety class at the Peekskill Yacht Club on July 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This beginner boating class will give attendees the knowledge needed to obtain a boat license or safety certification in many states. The ABS class will be taught by Steven Leardi, who earned the 2015 US Coast Guard Auxiliary Division 6 "Auxiliarist of the Year" award.

Circus Draws Crowd Of Protesters In Verplanck
Two circus performances meant to benefit the Cortlandt Manor Rotary Club have drawn the ire of protesters, citing cruelty to animals. The Kelly Miller Circus performed Tuesday and Wednesday at the Mount Carmel Grounds.

Letter: Stop The Kelly Miller Circus From Running In Verplanck
It is tremendously disappointing to see that the Rotary Club of Cortlandt Manor is hosting a live-animal circus in Verplanck on June 16th and 17th. For an organization whose mission is rooted in service and ethics, it seems to be exceptionally contradictory that they would participate in a practice that is so widely considered to be barbaric and outdated.

Algonquin Opponents Stage 'Playdates' on Pipeline Route
The events are meant to make residents more aware of Spectra Energy's plans for the natural gas line that runs through northern Westchester. Opponents of Spectra Energy's plans to expand its Algonquin pipeline from Pennsylvania to Canada are hosting a week of Pipeline Playdates at playgrounds from Verplanck to Yorktown Heights that are on or near the route.

Man Assaults Motorcyclist With Butt End Of Rifle In Verplanck, Police Say
A Verplanck man faces multiple charges after state police say he assaulted a motorcyclist with the butt end of a rifle outside his home on Broadway in Verplanck on Sunday. Joseph Crawford, 33, has been charged with second-degree assault , second-degree menacing and reckless endangerment.
