Cortlandt Honors Late Town Worker, Verplanck Resident At Park Dedication

Cortlandt will formally dedicate its new park facilities at Lake Meahagh on Saturday, according to town Supervisor Linda D. Puglisi. The park is on Westchester Avenue and the public is invited to the ceremony, which begins at 11 a.m. The town will also dedicate a tree planted in memory of Robert "Sinbad" Sinclair, a beloved employee of the town Highway Department, and a bench, which honors Jefferey Kessler, the late son of another longtime town employee, Thomas Kessler.

The Lake Meahagh Community Garden was created this past spring, and Green Team members have been involved since its opening, learning gardening basics alongside community members and team adviser, Hendrick Hudson science teacher Stephanie McQuade.

Coast Guard Offers Boating Safety Courses In Peekskill

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Verplanck Flotilla is offering a oating safety class at the Peekskill Yacht Club on July 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This beginner boating class will give attendees the knowledge needed to obtain a boat license or safety certification in many states. The ABS class will be taught by Steven Leardi, who earned the 2015 US Coast Guard Auxiliary Division 6 "Auxiliarist of the Year" award.

'Neighbors' in Montrose Rally in Red to Support North Carolina Boy with Cancer

Last Friday, students and staff at Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary School-almost 700 miles away-showed support for Zander by wearing the color red. Red is Xander's favorite color and his school and community in North Carolina were doing the same thing March 20: "Exciting day around here! Xander Day all around the school and community! Xander and the whole family were able to make an appearance! Treatment is going well but please pray he gets his appetite back soon and gains some weight," Xander's supporters wrote on his GoFundMe page.

The reviews are in and it's official: the Hendrick Hudson High School Starboard Stars' Drama Club spring musical, Seussical , was a smash hit! Clare Carey and Erica Denler collaborated with a cast of students - including some from Blue Mountain Middle School and Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary School - to bring life to the fabulous, family friendly Broadway show that made its debut back in 2000.
