Report Of Man Fondling Self In Cortlandt Leads To Forcible Touching Arrest

A man from Northern Westchester has been apprehended by state police after allegedly fondling himself and touching a minor in Cortlandt. New York State Police troopers arrested 33-year-old Buchanan resident Nelson Fernandez on Thursday, Oct. 19 following a complaint of a man who was fondling himself, then grabbed a child under the age of 17 the day prior on 6th Street in Verplanck.

Fire Breaks Out At Elementary School In Cortlandt

Students were evacuated from an elementary school in Cortlandt on Thursday when part of a heating unit malfunctioned, sending smoke into the school, said Buchanan Fire Chief Stuart Bayer. The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. when an alarmed was activated at the Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary Schools, sending firefighters from Buchanan to the school, at 160 Westchester Ave., the chief said.

Hendrick Hudson Elementary Schools Remember Sept. 11

At all three of the Hendrick Hudson School District's elementary schools, students participated in a variety of activities designed to commemorate the attacks. Lindsey Elementary Schools gathered in front of their respective buildings for ceremonies highlighting service and freedom and to mark Sept.11 as a day of remembrance.

Level 2 Sex Offender From Northern Westchester Abused Teen Boy, Police Say

A registered sex offender has been remanded to Westchester County Jail after being arrested for allegedly having sexual contact with a teenage boy in Cortlandt, state police said on Monday. On Friday, April 21, New York State Police and the Westchester County Child Advocacy investigated reports of a sexual offense that had been reported to state police involving 56-year-old Verplanck resident Kenneth Brody, who is a level 2 sex offender.

Verplanck Man Fails To Appear In Court, Yorktown Police Say

A man accused of petit larceny found himself back in Yorktown Justice Court this week, after he was arrested on a bench warrant for failing to appear in court. Shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, Verplanck resident Christopher Sheppard, 32, voluntarily surrendered himself into custody at the Yorktown Police Department after a bench warrant was issued for his arrest for failing to appear in court.

Police Pursue BMW With Missing Cortlandt Teen Believed To Be Aboard

Authorities are pursuing a 2014 grey BMW in connection with a missing 16-year-old Verplanck teen, according to state police. Samantha Lucero, 16, of Verplanck who was first reported missing in June 2016, and again in January, has been seen in the Cortlandt area and may be with the man driving the car, according to Trooper Melissa McMorris, spokeswoman for the New York State Police.
